somers town

Somers Town is an area in central London, cut off between St Pancras and Euston Stations, of predominantly early 20th century social housing blocks with a population of many immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Regeneration is going on in adjacent areas and impacts adversely.

A photographic survey of the area revealed railings, barricades, brick walls and barbed wire, confining people within their homes and their area. I produced two-dimensional work – text that told the story – and experimented with materials and process that explored line, texture and monoprinting, and produced ‘accidental’ marks and overlays.
